Can you export a Framer website? What to check first
Framer’s official export guidance currently conflicts. Confirm the route for your account, save your content and test any export before moving.
The official help pages give two different answers
When we checked on 20 October 2026, Framer’s data-portability article said published website files could be downloaded and hosted elsewhere. Its HTML-export article said Framer did not offer that capability. Both pages were available.
That means we would not promise a complete export from the documentation alone. Ask Framer support to confirm the method available for your particular site and account, and request the exact steps.

What to ask before you make a decision
Ask whether you will receive a standalone website or a copy that still relies on Framer services. Ask how forms, CMS pages, redirects and image files behave after moving, and whether the download includes what you need to keep editing.
If a third-party export plugin is suggested, check its price, permissions, licence and limitations. We would test the actual result rather than assume a plugin reproduces the whole site.
Save a useful copy of your content now
- Record the public page addresses and save the text, original pictures and documents you own. Take screenshots of layouts you want to retain.
- If the site uses CMS collections, ask about the structured CSV or JSON export route described in Framer’s portability guide.
- For design references, Framer’s desktop app can export selected assets or pages as PNG or JPG. Those are pictures, not a working website.

Keep the move conditional on a working preview
Share the current site address with Lightning and any export instructions confirmed by Framer. We can assess the actual files or quote a rebuild using the content you have saved.
Keep Framer hosting active until a separate copy has been checked. We agree the domain and email changes only after you have approved the replacement. The uncertainty over export should be resolved before you cancel anything.
